Building Credibility For You & Your Product Reviews.
By Lee McCoy | July 4, 2009
The single most important thing I have ever learned on this subject came from a training session Frank Kern gave. In which he explained the concept of speaking from “the core”. It’s a truly amazing lecture and far to complex to put down in words here for you.
I guess the underlying principle is to speak the truth, and believe in what you are saying. People really can tell when youre doing this. Show them your passion, your enthusiasm, your disappointments, and they will relate to you.
Believe me your customers are not stupid people, they will spot a fake sooner or later and then you have lost them forever. Plus you have damaged your reputation in the process. Speaking from the core will build a relationship with your customers that has a solid foundation. Once you’re doing this we can look at some other tactics to boost your reputation further.

Be A Problem Solver.
Like we said earlier every product has its faults. Be the person who openly speaks about those faults and find the solution. I’ll let you in on a little secret, when I looking to do a big promotion for an affiliate product, not just a couple of emails, I mean a custom built product promotion. I only ever select products that have faults in them, and faults I know I can fix. Sure this means I don’t have a wide range to choose from (I’m also quite particular about product price points and commission levels) but when I do find a product that fits, I know I’m going to make a lot of money from it. (more about this and how to do the same in the member’s area)
Quality Product Reviews.
Another way to build credibility is to produce a good solid informative review, try to back it up with statistics, testimonials, interviews video, basically what I’m saying here is do the work. Test the product explore all the avenues you can find, offer more quality information in a better format than any of your competitors. Sounds difficult doesn’t it? Well its not.
I have a web template for my review pages, I follow the same blueprint every time. In fact I’ve given that very blueprint to my Gold Members and had some excellent feedback from them. I’m not going to pretend I invented the wheel here, I swiped it from Alex Goad who I believe swiped it from somebody else who probably swiped it again. What I’m saying is it’s tried its tested and it works. If you have access to a blueprint great, if not then your probably going to find most marketers will not just give it to your for free, its simply way to valuable. So you may have to go the old try and test route.
Producing short review videos is so easy it’s just silly, you can use screen capture or standard video, ready the sales page, take about the product, make a quick PowerPoint presentation, the possibilities are endless. Then just uploads it to you tube and link your review page to it. Interviews can be a little hard to come by in the beginning, you could contact the product owner, but they tend to be busy people. Another option and a tactic used very little, is to try and find another marketer in the same niche, and discuss the merits of the product from different perspectives, record the session and offer it to your prospects and customers.
Always approach the product owner before swiping any of the sales page, but even if they don’t like you using it (and that’s never happened to me) you can at least take the names of the people who gave testimonials, and use them as references in your product review. It’s credibility by association and it’s not to underestimate. When you know about it you will be amazed how often you see it.
Cover areas like product support and returns. I have no idea why but most reviews I read don’t even touch on those subjects and it has to be a thought in your prospects mind. “What if I get it and it’s a load of junk” answer the question for them by testing the product support, even by returning the product, you could always pull out at the last moment if you really don’t want to actually part with the product.
Enter The Conversation Already Taking Place.
That is just an adaptation of the oldest and best marketing trick in the book, entering the conversation in n the customers mind. If you can learn to do that, you are more than half way to success.
In summery of this and the earlier post, try the product, don’t over hype, limit the number of promotions and build your credibility by speaking truthfully, from your core, to the conversation already taking place in your customers mind.
